In August we blogged about author Ellen Cassedy\u2019s book about Lithuanian resistance,\u00a0<em>We Are Here: Memories of the Lithuanian Holocaust<\/em>\u00a0(University of Nebraska Press).<\/p>\n<p>Applebaum writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Certainly the insistent declaration \u201cwe are here\u201d isn\u2019t part of any big nation\u2019s national anthem. Americans sing about \u201cthe land of the free and the home of the brave.\u201d The British sing \u201cGod save the Queen.\u201d The French sing, \u201cThe day of glory has arrived.\u201d None of them sing in order to prove that they haven\u2019t been wiped out.
